Use case cities/municipalities

With the increase in population density in urban areas, the challenge of mobility within cities and municipalities is increasing. These are coming up against spatial limits due to a high use of vehicles by residents and commuters, together with increasing delivery traffic. Various trends are emerging that will play a decisive role in shaping the future mobility concept. Development concepts are emerging that make cities more efficient, technologically advanced and greener to become smart cities. For example, urban mobility is becoming electrified, which results in an increase in air quality.

For the increasing number of vehicles, especially electric vehicles, cities and municipalities need to provide sufficient electric infrastructure. Another trend that is emerging and relieving inner-city traffic is the offer of car sharing. When several people share a car, correspondingly fewer parking spaces are taken up. The focus, especially among the younger generations, is no longer on owning a car, but on mobility itself. The increasing popularity also arises from the possibility of digitalisation and the easy use of services via online platforms and apps.

The FITS/eMobility Cloud® helps cities and municipalities to master the challenge of urban mobility. In particular through:

  • Intelligent parking management
  • Management and monitoring of the entire e-charging infrastructure
  • Car sharing
  • Digitalisation of mobility solutions

Smart parking and parking space management

Efficient parking management relieves the pressure on car parks and multi-storey car parks and thus on traffic, because a large part of the high traffic volume is caused by the search for parking spaces. The FITS/eMoC® offers the monitoring of parking spaces by means of intelligent parking sensor technology and efficient parking space management, which optimises the utilisation of parking spaces.

Users can search for a specific parking space at the desired destination via the FITS/eMoC® app and reserve it directly. The parking sensor system identifies parking violations, e.g. internal combustion vehicles blocking a parking space with a charging station, and the FITS/eMoC® portal can be used to send notifications directly to the public order office in the event of an offence. Billing is automated and is handled by external payment service providers, which means that cities and municipalities no longer have to deal with the entire process. Ad-hoc payments can be made via QR code  or by registering in the user application.

E-charging infrastructure

With FITS/eMoC® you get a management platform for your e-charging park. The software enables the monitoring and remote maintenance of the e-charging stations, including the connection of e-charging points from different manufacturers. The charging processes can be settled via digital payment (credit card, Apple Pay, PayPal, etc.) or via app authorisation. Fault messages for individual charging stations can be recorded with the mobile end device and initial maintenance can be carried out by remote command. Automated notifications can be used to inform electricians directly in emergencies.

Public Carsharing

The car sharing module of the FITS/eMobility Cloud® enables the efficient use and coordination of pool vehicles. The aim is to reduce vehicle utilisation in cities through car sharing and thus make cities cleaner. The offer to share a vehicle between several people and to use it only when it is needed by the individual leads many people to forego buying their own vehicle. Public Carsharing thus encourages the reduction of traffic. The FITS/eMoC® platform provides all the prerequisites for this. Via the reservation portal in the app, users can make reservations and bookings and thus organise mobility themselves.  The portal displays the next available vehicle in the vicinity. This can then be reserved for the desired period. An overview is provided by the administration portal, where all current bookings and reservations can be seen, so that the capacity utilisation and the need for vehicles can be quickly identified. The vehicle can be conveniently opened and started via the user app Keyless, i.e. without a key.
